The Mainichi Newspapers Kyushu Center Kitakyushu Factory, which began full operation in February 2002 as the printing and distribution center of the Mainichi Newspapers Company Western division, is equipped with the newest and most powerful printing presses to provide faster, more colorful printed pages. Kajima Design was responsible for the architecture, and ILYA for the exterior and interior coloring and signage design. The design centers around bold coloration of the printing presses and the machinery, with Mainichi Newspapers’ “intelligent blue” as the main color, and generous use of the logotype to make the factory an expression of the corporate identity and create a space that is pleasant to work in.
